When I saw the last few months have been busy I mean my schedule has been packed from 7am (or earlier) every day to 10pm every night. I wish it was all books.
Some of it was books. I’ve been lucky enough to have excellent editing clients this year with fantastic books. I have ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A GARGOYLE out with my beta reader for the first round of edits (the ending third of the book is still unwritten). I have THE PRICE OF THE MOUNTAIN LILY and FOR EVERY ACTION (Fleet of Malik 3) in the works.
But a lot of the busy-ness has been momming. There’s a high school senior with college applications, a return missionary who is doing college ranking classes, a middle schooler picking out high school classes, a grade schooler picking out middle school classes. My youngest child turned 11 in January.
Y’all, some of you have been reading my blog longer than this child has been alive, and they’re 11. That’s ridiculous.
I don’t often feel like I have anything new to say on the blog. Especially since a lot of my life I don’t talk about online. My kids have online names. My husband is referred to as My Husband, Dear Husband, Spouse, ect. I talk about the general area I live in or the state, but there are 9.77 million people in this city so I’m not too worried about someone bumping into me at the grocery store.
Most of my day to day life – most of any author’s day to day life – is a very boring slog of laundry, family, walking the dog, and writing when we can. Sometimes inspiration hits. Sometimes you have to hunt inspiration down with a shovel and duct tape.
You can imagine how I roll my eyes when the marketing advice is Just be Yourself!
Myself is very boring, and she’d like to take a nap, thanks.
But that’s wrong, isn’t it? There’s no such thing as a boring person. In nearly 41 years of life I’ve never met someone who wasn’t fascinating. It’s easy to see Predictable, Stable, and Routine as boring though, isn’t it? It’s easy to think your everyday routine is dull because it’s yours. You see it every day. You live it constantly. You know how to handle the problems that come up.
So much of what we consider exciting is simply different. It’s something new, and we humans do love NEW.
