I'm researching the end of the Middle Ages for reasons that will become apparent in the months to come, and I found this little gem. It's a purse from 16th century Venice, and the shape is listed as "Lute". From the caption: "...suspended the waist of the dress, very much in vogue, the 'bag-shaped lute' ..."
That's right, it was a lady's purse that hung suspended at the waist.
Furthermore, the translated caption suggests this was a gift from a lover. I bet it was. I can see a lover giving a girl a ...LUTE... shaped purse that hung near the juncture of her thighs. You know, I think lutes should make a comeback. What girl wouldn't want a lute shaped purse? It would be perfect for putting your cellphone in! But remember, phones on vibrate while you're at work, girls.
Maybe it's just me and I have a dirty mind. Vote in the comments: Lute or Not?
